He has devoted his career to empowering Latinos and engaging them in the democratic process, and he has shown that Latino political power can drive change for generations to come. He has been an advocate for the labor movement for more than 33 years.
As National Field Director of the Service Employees International Union (SEIU), he brought political organizing to immigrant communities in California and then across the country. He was a key leader in the campaign against California's Prop. 187, an anti-immigrant ballot initiative that sought to strip immigrants of their human and civil rights.
He is currently one of the directors of Corazón Latino, an organization that runs campaigns to inform, empower, and mobilize the immigrant community.
