Originally from León, Guanajuato, she has lived in Los Angeles, California, since 2000. She is a physician and surgeon and holds a master's degree in public policy. Since 2004, she has been recognized for her outreach to and support for the immigrant community and community leaders. She is currently President of “Mujeres Extraordinarias,” a volunteer organization of Mexican immigrant women.
