He is an activist who for more than a decade has focused on young people and on raising awareness of the environmental and health issues affecting the immigrant community in California. He founded the Anahuak Youth Sports Association in Northeast Los Angeles in 1994.
Anahuak was created as an alternative to drugs, gangs, and crime, using soccer as a hook to keep kids off the streets—kids whose families can't afford league fees and equipment. Anahuak also leads the way in mobilizing its members, especially around environmental and health issues affecting the community.
Today it runs a soccer league for 2,000 girls and boys ages 5 to 17 at parks and schools across Los Angeles.
