He is a Mexican political scientist with degrees from the University of New Mexico (B.A. in Economics, M.A. in Political Science) and the University of California, Riverside (Ph.D.). He currently holds the Diane D. Blair Endowed Chair in Latino Studies and is an Assistant Professor of Political Science at the University of Arkansas.
His broad research and teaching interests are Latino politics in the U.S. and Mexican politics. His research focuses on a range of contemporary issues in North American politics, including Latinos in the U.S. South, transnational political behavior, Latino political thought, Chicano politics, Mexican legislative and electoral politics, and North American integration.
