Official Launch of Un Nahual en el Imperio

Guadalajara, Jalisco | November 29 — In an event marked by emotion and a warm response from the audience, the book Un Nahual en el Imperio had its official launch at the Guadalajara International Book Fair, recognized as one of the most influential literary platforms in the world. Combining chronicle, biography, and reportage, the book traces the life of Jaime Lucero while also chronicling the collective struggle for the political rights of the Mexican diaspora in the United States. Written by journalist Maurizio Guerrero, the book offers a deep, well-documented portrait of the Mexican migrant experience and the emergence of Fuerza Migrante as a binational movement for social and political advocacy. The narrative follows a life marked by extreme poverty, intuition, structural violence, and the ability to build community in the financial heart of the world. The personal story of a Mixtec migrant from Puebla becomes a broader political portrait of the historical absence of representation for Mexicans living in the United States. María de Lourdes Rosas, a professor and researcher in the Political Science program at UPAEP, shared her thoughts on the book, highlighting its value as a political and social testimony of the Mexican migrant experience. Maurizio Guerrero was a Notimex correspondent at the United Nations for a decade and has built a career defined by journalistic rigor, investigation, and a critical eye on Mexican migration. He currently writes for various independent media outlets in the United States. Published by Grano de Sal and featuring cover art by renowned cartoonist and illustrator Felipe Galindo “Feggo”, the book grew out of more than one hundred hours of interviews and is currently being presented at various academic, cultural, and institutional forums across Mexico.
