The Republican government of Donald J. Trump continues to inflict pain and cruelty to the more than 700,000 beneficiaries of the Deferred Action for Childhood Arrivals (DACA) program, terrorizing them, their families and their communities.
Fuerza Migrante reiterates its condemnation of the White House latest attempt to neutralize DACA, all but signaling its intention to end it in a year, after their stunning defeat in the U.S. Supreme Court last month.
The White House announced on Tuesday that it will replace the full program with an abbreviated version that will deny any new applications and renew the validity of those in DACA for one more year only, instead of two, which was the norm up until now.
This already three-year attempt to destroy the lives of DACA recipients will continue to be fought in the courts and we are certain that we will persevere.
We pledge our full support to all those civil society organizations that are taking concrete legal steps to stop this attacks against Dreamers.
DACA remains a bipartisan issue and as such we call upon legislators on both sides of the aisle in the Senate to pass the American Dream and Promise Act, already passed in the House last year. The legislation will provide permanent protection for Dreamers.
