The coronavirus and the ensuing COVID-19 crisis it´s stillpretty much a MASSIVE PUBLIC HEALTH PROBLEM throughout the United States and tens of other countries, including México.
According to John Hopkins University figures, coronavirus cases have risen 65 percent over the past two weeks. As of this past weekend, there were over 2.5 million cases of infected people in the United States, and the Center for Disease Control (CDC) estimates that there are at least 10 times more infected people in the nation that have not been diagnosed.
The most severe cases in the past two weeks have been registered in many of the communities where Mexican migrant communities live: Texas, California, Arizona, Colorado, Nevada, Florida, Georgia, Arkansas,so we urge you to redouble your efforts and #DoNotLetYourGuardDown.
Some high level federal officials maintain that the increase in the number of cases is the result of more available diagnostic testing, and while there is more people being tested than before, the percentage of people resulting infected is way higher than ever, and not because there is more testing, but just because more people are getting infected.
While there is a vaccine or an effective treatment, the only proved ways to protect yourself and the rest of us are keeping a safe distance from others while on the street or in a public place -at least 6 feet or about 2 meters-, use a mask that covers both your mouth and nose, and washing your hands repeatedly for at least 20 seconds each time.
There is no wedding, birthday party, graduation ceremony, baptism, bar mitzvah, or a night out with friends that is worth going to, if that puts your health and that of others in danger. FuerzaMigrante respectfully invites you to contribute to your community, this time by observing the measures mentioned above. Help yourself and let´s help us all.
And remember, diagnostic tests are free, so go and get tested.
