The US census is underway after the forced adjustment of operations and dates due to the COVID-19 pandemic’s impact in all public activities in the nation.
The temporary suspension and readjustment of mechanisms to fulfill some aspects of the census -namely, counting in person or door-to-door- is designed to protect the health and security of the public, including all census workers.
By June 15th, it was estimated that close to 75 million people had already responded to the census, or about 50 percent of all U.S. households.
Under the revised structure, the new deadline for census workers to keep collecting information, is October 31st. That will allow for data processing and preparation of the report to be delivered to the sitting president by April 30th, 2021.
The president will then turn it over to Congress, so that the legislative body can then deliver to each state the relevant data for them, to adjust electoral districts when necessary.
Remember that your immigration status is no obstacle for participating and be counted. FuerzaMigrante invites you to participate in person, via postal mail, electronically or by phone.
